Keep or move on?

This summer could see another re-building scheme by DJ, which players that are coming out of contract should we keep and who should we thank and move on?

Players out of contract this summer at Linfield are:

Shamrock Rovers ticket allocation

So we woke up again this morning to another controversial decision by the Management Committee. This time it is about ticketing for the Setanta Cup game away to Shamrock Rovers on 4th March. The decision has been made that only Member’s and Season Ticket holders can buy a ticket.

There will be many opinions on this outcome varying from “tickets should go on General Sale” to this being “the correct decision”.

Personally I feel that it is another example of poor communication by the MC which leaves them open to criticism. I am sure there is information that if shared with supporters would help us understand why the MC have come to this decision. It would be useful to know:-

Europa League

Europa League for a change?

Our european adventure next season could be a lot more interesting than the past decade of Champions League games as we will most likely be involved in the Europa League. With the probably of us finishing in either second or third position we will be waiting on the Europa League draw on Monday 24th June and not the Champions League option.

It seems this season that Northern Ireland will have 3 teams entering at the first qualifing round – 1. Irish Cup Winner 2. League runner-up 3. League third place

The home and away legs will take place on 4th & 11th July and if we are lucky enough to progress the second qualifying rounds take place on 18th &25th July. There is no real glamour teams that we can draw, just our usual Scandinavian friends and East Europeans.

Last season Portadown beat a team from Macedonia only to lose out to a Croatian team 10-2 in the second round. Cliftonville and Crusaders fell at the first hurdle, Cliftonville  against a Swedish team (although they did beat them in the home leg) and Crusaders to a strong Rosenborg team.

The main concern with missing out on the Champions League will be the money you get, we are set to be around €150,000 down on previous years UEFA money although if we could win through the furst round we would only be €50,000 down.

So it’s not all doom and gloom if we don’t win the league this season, we can’t be expected to win it every year and a trip into the Europa League isn’t that all bad but we MUST finish in the top three positions.
